Chance of A Lifetime:

I have an opportunity to attend Inauguration Day as Barack Obama is sworn in as the 44th President. But I have decided not to go. People think that I am crazy for giving up an opportunity to see something this important, this historical. But truth be told, I can not be around that many people at one time. It’s too much for me. I know this is important. It may never happen again but still I just rather sit in my living room, hugged up under hubby with the fireplace going and watch it up close on my television.
Plus they are expecting like 4 million folks, and it may be freezing cold. Heck I don’t really like Washington, DC when I go there on business. But still I realize that I am giving up a great opportunity, but it doesn’t make me less proud or happy that this is the first time ever that an African American will be the President of the United States. I still have a hard time trying to wrap my mind around this but I just can’t handle the huge crowds.

Call me crazy but you can’t say that I’m not happy and proud!

You're not crazy! Crowds can be overwhelming to say the least and DC is going to be madness to the max!!! Watching it in the warmth of your home, snuggled up with the hubs sounds like a winner to me! Enjoy!!

I gave up the opportunity to hear then-president Bill Clinton speak at a friend's college graduation. I was stressed, it was the end of the year for me as well and something had to give. Since it couldn't be my finals... I have never regretted it. Not exactly the same, I realize, and the point is only you can know what's right for you.

You're not crazy. I wouldn't go, either. I've read that many people who live in the Washington, DC area are planning out-of-town trips around Inaugural Day because they don't want to deal with the millions of visitors.

You're not crazy at all. You can celebrate and toast to Obama in the comfort of your own home. Celebrate!
