Senseless Killing!

Crime hit our family today. My husband's 17-year-old nephew was murdered today around 2:00 p.m. We don't have the details but so far we've heard it was by another teenager. We are not sure. Next week we'll be traveling to a funeral. Sadly this is like the 10th death of someone under the age of 20, in less than 8 weeks that I have heard about from a friend, co-worker, or just from listening to the news. Kids are killing each other. So we are in fact losing two, one to death and another to prison. I pray that this epidemic stop really soon because too many young people are dying for no reasons. Pray that this senseless killing stop!

Why was my nephew killed? We don't know. My husband has been on the phone most of the day but still no one knows what happened. I just wished that people respected each other and cared about one another. But news reports, theoreticians and others suggest that this problem is long from over. So people grab your love ones and hug them tight, let them know you love them.
My biggest concerns other than the killing is the time of day that this is now happening, they are killing each other in broad daylight, criminals do not fear policemen or any other authorities and they are going after innocent family members when they can not find the intended victims. In addition, these young people do not fear death or at least that is what they are saying.

One other thing! My nephew must have felt something was going to happen to him. Last night he visited his grandmother who prayed with and for him and he cried and prayed with her. Imagine that!

I'm sorry to hear of your loss. Albeit a loss to the world, but we must remain faithful that heaven is that much richer. May God give your family the strength through this difficult time.

Praying for peace and for change.

That was what struck me once I could read past the first sentence ~ the fact that the killing took place at two in the afternoon.

Add my prayers to Rosemarie's ~ and everyone else's ~ for peace, for change, for you, and for all the families affected by this act.

*sigh*

Rose, I am so very sorry about your nephew. It is really sad about what is happening today. It's pretty scary. You and your family will also be in my prayers.

Thank you for your comment on my blog as it does seem like tragedy and death seems to happen to people we know and love this time of year. I believe that through prayer with his grandmother, he was able to come to terms with the Lord and is in a better place. God bless you, your husband and family.

What I find so disheartening is that as you stated young people today are not afraid of death. They don't value their lives and they don't even expect to make it to 18. And caring for their own lives, they certainly don't care for the lives of others. I don't know how we managed to breed such a generation of apathetic beings, but we must do something about it.
