Crying All the Way to the Gas Station

My husband left the gas credit card out yesterday and I picked it up and looked at the balance. My husband always pay the entire balance off monthly because he is a very conservative person and doesn’t like to pay finance charges or as he say give money away for nothing. So usually when I see a bill it has a zero balance. This time though he wanted my daughter and I to see how much money we are paying and maybe this would encourage us to stop driving around just to be doing so.

As I scanned the bill, I just about dropped to the floor when I saw that we owed $891.00 for one month of gasoline. What the heck! We have three cars. Each of us fills up weekly. Normally charges had been around 500 hundred a month. This is ridiculous too. Let’s see how I could spend $891.00. I could purchase grocery for a month, pay my trash and water bill, and my electric bill which runs around $150.00 or less per month and my cable bill. Or maybe I can purchase me a car and still have money left over for other things. But $891.00 month for gasoline……..geez…I am in the wrong business.

Oh my goodness, Rose! I feel your pain. I have a 60 mile per day commute (round trip). I moved away from the city because I don't like living there, but there are great opportunities in a metro away as far as career goes. I use my car for work on top of the commute so now gas is breaking me! It's not like a can simply sell my house and move closer to work. Not in this market. And why would/should I have to do that anyway? But I tell you what, I really miss being only 7 miles from work. Of course that would mean that my husband would be the one with the ridiculous commute.

I can't even talk about gas expenses. That mess is heart breaking. For real. I'm thankful that we can pay cash for it, but it still hurts.

And with no end in sight luv... Every time I blink, the gas price goes up another few cents. We went away to Rhode Island a few weeks ago for 5 days and expected the price to have gone up 10 cents during that time. Lucky us. It didn't budge one cent. But it came back with a vengeance later...

It's crazy. I was putting nearly $80 in my car and getting 13 miles to the gallon, crazy. Did I mention it's crazy???
