I Miss this terribly

I miss my daughter and the times we sat on her bed talking about life. Although we talk daily, I can tell she is growing up. Soon she will not need me as much.

I just returned from visiting her in college. I took her cleaning supplies, toiletries and several coats, and then I took her shopping. She thanked me but said, "Mom I don't need all this stuff. What ever I need I can get it here. I don't have storage space." See what I mean.

Finally we let her take her SUV after prayer. She is doing well with it, not transporting folks and keeping it more parked than driven. She visits her granny and aunts and cousins weekly. Her granny actually lives 2.8 miles from the campus. She is doing well in school and so far for mid term grades she boosts a 3.4 GPA. Hopefully she can hold it down or increase it.

Yes my baby is growing up and I miss her terribly but as one of my friends pointed out, you and your husband raised her to be independent and to seek success through education and she is doing what you taught her.

I'm proud but lonely.

Wow...what a lucky daughter you have!

You remind me of my mom. She'd drive all the way to DC to "visit" me and bring me the most random things......toilet paper, juice, you name it. At the time I felt overwhelmed and it made no sense that she'd come 4.5 hours to do this, but I see that it's love.

Just wanted to comment. I'm sure your daughter appreciates you. God bless!

My daughter is the only child but I am only being the kind of mother that I had. My mother went to preview with me to check out my college. Never having gone to college she walked the entire campus with me and showed me all the building so I wouldn't be scared later.

I was sorta like that. I wanted her to graduate but I was worried about the next phase and what that meant.

Luke: Don't I know it...

Honestly Shai I made sure was involved with social service activites. She fed the homeless, helped the Katrina victims, participated in teen rape sessions and she was involved in church. I met a lady when my daughter was two and she told me that if she was going to be the only child to get her involved with helping the poor, and participating in volunteering. She said that "only children needed that so they would not grow up self centered and spoiled. She even told me to give some of her toys away, to let her pick them and to make sure that she gave away something she cared about. That she felt would teach her to not give things away that she didn't want. In a way I think this stuff centered her. We did have a couple of incidents with her but nothing major and her dad intervene and that was it. See if you can get her involved with social service activities to keep her busy. Let her tutor a younger child that will even help her with her own education. I think that if they are busy during something helpful that won't have the energy to do other stuff. Everything wasn't perfect but it wasn't bad either.

I know you are so proud of your young lady. Glad everything is working out for her with the car and her grades are outstanding!!

I am cherishing the moments I have with my dollface baby because I know in a minute she too will be on her way to college and will not need me as much as she does now. *sniff*

Very moving post.

As I read your post, it reminded me of my mom. She used to bring me lots of stuff, too, when I was in college. Lots of stuff!

Your daughter is very fortunate to have parents like you and your husband.

Will you adopt me? ;-)
