Recently I met two people who pretty much seemed to be very down to earth and friendly. My authors and I were working the Black Expo in August and having quite a nice time. Books were selling very well until she arrived and sat right next to me. Suddenly my line emptied and hers begin to drape around the room. Who is this woman that potential fans of my writing dropped me for? It was none other than this woman.
Do you recognize her? She is the beautiful smart talking sister of JJ from the show, Good Times, BerNadette Stanis. I couldn't believe that this lady who I couldn't wait to see on TV when I was in 8th grade looked almost exactly like she did so long ago. She was all smiles the whole entire time that she was there. My nephews who are 16 and 18 watched "Good Times" in reruns. Boy we couldn't pulled the smiling star struck boys away. (I was unable to scan their photos with her)
This person was the handsome brother, Mel Jackson from Soul Food and other TV shows. He purchased one of my books, saying that he was looking for books with the potential to become movies. He bought "A Hole in My Heart", later I thought, "foolish me why didn't I show him my other book," Backroom Confessions? I was unable to post pictures taken with my my nephews due to scanning problem. These photos were taken with my cell phone.
These two actors were down to earth and very friendly. Even though everyone else treated them like stars they were displaying no attitude or so call star power. Though Thelma is no longer on current television, reruns in syndication introduced her to a new generation with a new popularity?
Do you look your age? If you told someone your age would they be surprised at your response?
