Innocent Until Proven Guilty- About Chris Brown

Why are we so quick to jump to conclusions about issues affecting young African American men? It has been reported that Chris Brown had a meltdown and threw a chair that broke a window because he was upset about a line of questioning from an interviewer on Good Morning America. However, there is no evidence he did this. All I saw was the interview, no chair throwing, no ranting and raving, just words on the Internet saying this occurred. Yet, people are so quick to denounce folks as thuggish, horrible or criminal or they want to put the raft of God on them. Persecuting the person without real evidence they actually did the crime. Aren’t we innocent until proven guilty?

Today I read that no one knows who threw the chair and broke the window. I even heard GMA asked him to come back to perform. Not sure about that, it too is a rumor.

What I am sure of is this? Chris Brown needs practice learning how to respond to questions he does not want to answer. He needs more PR training if he’s had any at all. In addition, he needs to stay in counseling because issues don’t disappear overnight. When you have witnessed your mother being beaten, and I am sure he probably was too, because abusers not only abuse the mother or father of the house hold, they spread the violence to the children too, that’s not something easy to get over. Psychological and mental abuse is too difficult to just grow up and get over. It takes years of counseling. I am hoping this young brother go back into counseling, not because I am accusing him of having a meltdown but because answering questions about what he did to Rihanna is still too difficult for him to discuss.

Finally, Chris Brown’s Cd is number one on ITunes today. So apparently what they say about young people is true. You know that phrase, “From the mouth of babes”. It’s hard to fool young people and make them go against folks unless they see it themselves. Like them- show me him slinging a chair and breaking the window and even if I saw that video, judgment still is God and the people who wish to prosecute him.

Okay people you have to give it up for Chris Brown. The young man is very talented and really did a nice tribute to Micheal Jackson. I think all you Chris haters need to give the man his due- he is talented. Yes, he made a mistake- a big one, but he has the same right as you and I, to apologize, and do better and continue to prosper with his talent.

Go forward Chris and bring your next album out- hard. I'll buy one just to save a young brother and to show the world that though we falter and fall, we can rise again with hard work and making amends for your wrong.

What's the Difference?

I've heard people complaining that Tiger's wife Elin did not get arrested for domestic violence. Supposedly she beat him to a crisp for stepping out on her while Chris did the same to Rhianna and got 5 years probation, etc. Is there a difference in the two cases here? Neither women pressed charges but one man was convicted. What is this saying? Does white people in general get away with stuff while blacks get their hands smacked for everything. Don't get me wrong domestic violence is wrong....but in Tiger's case- I kinda think his wife should have beat his butt for being unfaithful and not the man she thought he was. What do you say?

Domestic Abuse among the young is on the rise. Teens unable to control their emotions strike out at the person they are the closest too. Most bloggers know that I have a niece who was in a very abusive relationship from 17-21. We did everything to save her. We even involved the law who informed us that there was nothing they could do unless she filed charges. No amount of counseling helped her because she was so in love. Our only hope was that she would grow out of it and live to talk about it. Eventually she did. In all my counseling and talking to her as an aunt, I found that she suffered from self esteem issues. Her boyfriend fed off that and used it to keep her down.

I have tried to help at least ten teens in getting out of abusive relationships. Six years ago I sent one young victim, 19 to Florida all expense on me. Guess what! She was back in less than four months right back in the arms of the young abuser. I got involved because I knew her and he left her for dead in an alley. I went to their wedding, three years later. He, sought help through an agency and he went through a male involvement program with counseling. Since that time she informed me that he has never hit her again. They seemed to be happy together. They have been married about three years now. They are both still in counseling. I get regular updates just because the staff in the program knew how much I reached out to her.

Most abusers have a parent who was an abuser or who suffered through this horrendous act. This new abuser swear that they would never abuse anyone. They understand the pain because they watched it and hate the abuser. Yet, most of the time they become what they hate the most.

When I heard about Chris Brown and Rihanna I did a search and found out that he watched his step father beat his mom regularly. He hated his stepfather and still does, yet if the media reports are accurate, he is becoming his stepfather.

I am holding off my judgment against him for I wasn’t there and do not know what happened. I hope that if he did abuse his girlfriend that he seeks help now while he is young. It’s not too late for him to get help. If Chris goes through counseling and anger management treatment and does publicity to show teenagers that hitting and hurting people is a coward’s move and that under no circumstance should they strike out and harm the people they claim to love, he could help many teens stop this stupidity.

I can only pray that these teens learn how to enjoy life without violence and stop moving toward the negative spectum of live.
