October Is National Bullying Prevention Month: Help Put a Stop to Bullying
October Is National Bullying Prevention Month: Help Put a
Stop to Bullying
True story: My sister told me she was bullied daily at
school. She was called ugly and believed it. I was shocked. Why didn’t you tell
us? You have 7 brothers and sisters; we would have put a stop to it fast. But
she felt hopeless.
A young girl I know was being bullied daily. She never told
a soul. When she became older she did the same thing to others. She said, “I
suffered from depression and low-self-esteem because of bullying.”
I heard a 3 year old bully a 9 year old. The 9 year old just
cried.
I personally witness this conversation with a group of kids
no older than 8.
Kid 1: You are fat and ugly. He said this to the 6 year-old.
Kid 2: No I’m not.
Kid 1: Yes you are, and you’re ugly too.
Kid 3: You are fat and eat too much.
I confronted them all. I told the 6 year old she was
beautiful. Get this! She was very skinny and small. My nephew and I wrote these
books to help young people. Stop Bullying Now!

Ugly Eye Fashions Become Cool Again
As a young girl, I would flip through magazines and look at
careers, hairstyles, and clothing to see what I wanted in life. I saw an
intelligent looking woman wearing these cool designers’ glasses, and I wanted
them. I was eleven when I decided I had to have these particular glasses I saw
on a model. I told mom, I had vision problems. When she took me to be examined,
I pretended I couldn’t see the letters. I was given a prescription and next I
was able to try on glasses. I tried on designer’s glasses until Momma said,
“try these.” Having eight kids, she chose what I was getting based on what she
was going to pay. I was so mad that mom would not give me my heart's desires. I
had worn the glasses once or twice before I crunched them with something heavy.
I was not wearing the ugly Superman, Clark Kent glasses.
As an adult, I have great vision. I need reading glasses
only when I read small letters. I ended up purchasing the same reading glasses
I crunched at 11-years-old. (Wearing them in the car) Now as an adult, I love
reading glasses and I love to match the colors and shapes with what I wear. I
have more than 30 pairs, but if I see something new and cute I will buy more
pairs. Yesterday, my daughter bought me three more new pairs. The benefit of
being young and living to see old ugly fashions become cool again decades
later.

Check out Amazon. My book A Hole in My Heart is free for Prime Members. Download it today and let a teen read it.
People ask me why I write….. This is why! I changed nothing except to removed the students’ name..
I'm a 15 year old student in Creve Coeur, Missouri. I purchased your novel, "A Hole In My Heart" before 2004 ended and I must say, it was a very interesting piece of work. I enjoyed reading your book and I just had to give my regards to you too. I am a gifted writer as well with very good handwriting, and once I finished reading the story, it touched me. It addressed the impact of some of the families in our world today just like you said on the back of the cover. I was really impressed! Anyway, I have to go but, I just had to send you two a shout out and I wanted you two to know that there are people out there like me, who would love to purchase your books. Have a nice day!
If you are an Amazon Prime member you can download this free and let a teen read.

Without Dad

I’ve been inspired throughout my life by special circumstances and unique experiences. Foremost, I grew up with a family that injected me with unconditional love and enduring confidence. This is my foundation … the family holidays and celebrations with my maternal lineage … supportive smiles in audiences at school programs … guiding hands to complete homework and special projects in the wee hours of the morning.

It is said that a boy misses his dad even if he has never met him. The son longs for a relationship with his father. When I co-wrote A Hole in My Heart with my nephew, Edward Booker, I finally realized how deep that hole in the heart could be for a boy desiring to have a relationship with his father.

Finding this letter while surfing the net, only confirmed that boys need their dads. R & B singer, Al B Sure’s son Quincy exposes his dad, Al for not being there for him in an open letter to Global Grind. See letter below…
A Letter To My Father:
I’ve been inspired throughout my life by special circumstances and unique experiences. Foremost, I grew up with a family that injected me with unconditional love and enduring confidence. This is my foundation … the family holidays and celebrations with my maternal lineage … supportive smiles in audiences at school programs … guiding hands to complete homework and special projects in the wee hours of the morning.
However, I grew up without my father, an irreplaceable force and influence that was absent in my life. I watched other kids enjoy the embrace of theirs, and I searched for a way to reconcile the meaning of my circumstance. (read more here: http://www.globalgrind.com/)

What Do Over Changed the Direction of Your Life?
What is the one thing in your life that changed your career direction? For me it was getting my books published by publishers who were more interested in money than quality. It wasn't just the covers that I disliked, it was also the editing that left much to be desired. I felt that I could do a better job, so I studied the market and learned a new skill.
These are the books that I redid and it changed one of my career directions.
My version (revised Oct. 2008)
This cover was my idea. I kept it in the change over because the book is about substance abuse and the person who did the cover by hand is an alcoholic who remain sober long enough to draw and paint the cover. Unfortunately he is now chronic. Also the book was co-written by my then 14-year-old nephew for young readers.
