Put the Cell Phone Down, Please

I decided many months to stop talking on the phone and driving. I stop running my mouth on the phone after reading that others had died or killed others because they were driving and talking on the phone. There was a time when I enjoyed driving and talking as it helped the boredom of driving almost 35 minutes a day one way to the office. But after once talking on the phone and looking up to find that I had driven almost an hour away from my destination I knew I had to stop.

Several other things trimmed down my drive talk.

# I found myself lost and did not know where I was because I was talking and driving. Nothing was familiar.

# I pulled to a four way stop sign and we all were on the phone. That scared me.

# Over ten accidents, and more than 15 deaths occurred last summer and the deaths were attributed to at least one of the drivers talking on the phone.

Now if I get a call, I pull into a grocery store or other busy lot to talk. I don't want to kill myself or ever cause another person to die because I did something stupid.

all this talking, was it with our without a hands free device?

I know they say hands free is still unsafe, but I just wonder.

I don't talk on the phone while driving much, but I'm a headset person. There is a problem out west with people texting while driving. THAT is scarier than talking while driving.

Good for you. It drives me nuts when I'm behind someone who has stopped at a green light (or something equally stupid) and when I pass them I see them on the phone.

Hopefully, more people will follow your lead. BTW, TJ is right about the texting while driving. It is very scary!

The person in front of me today was all over the road and kept sitting instead of driving when it was her turn. I finally was able to pass her and she was texting. Unbelievable.

Wow; I'm glad I read this because the next time I call one of my sons and find out they are on the road; I will hang up and try when they get home.
