What a time!

I have had an incredibly difficult time trying to sleep. Just about 6 nights a week, I finally lay my head down around 3:00 a.m. the following morning. I generally dose off in between 3:30 a.m. & 4:00 a.m. I get up about 7:00 a.m. every morning unless I have a meeting and need to arise around 6:00 a.m. On Sunday mornings I get in the bed around 3:00 a.m. and I sleep until 10 or 10:30 a.m., an average of about 7 or 7.5 hours. I can’t find sleep Monday –Saturday. I know I need it but to go to bed and just lay there makes no sense because I can clean, or type or do something useful. But I know I need sleep. Almost every research study cites the importance of getting the appropriate amount of sleep yet, still, I don’t feel tired.

My mother called to tell me that several people saw me and thought I look unhappy. Maybe I look vacant by the eyes since I am only getting maybe 27 hours of sleep a week when 56 is more appropriate. I do know that stress can cause this and so can so many other things. But I refuse to take anything to help me sleep as my best friend suggested. I know eventually I’ll get so tired that I’ll crawl to the bed. So if you see me, I am not unhappy but I’m dog tried, overworked and overly stimulated. But it is all good, because I am doing what I love to do.

BTW, it would be great if someone could tell me how to repair my right column. That happened to me before but I can't think of how I corrected the problem.

I hope you get more sleep soon. I know how it can be knowing that you need sleep and yet knowing that other "more useful" stuff could be done. I haven't worked with that layout in a while, but if I remember how to fix that column, I'll let you know.

Take care.

There's a misconception that if we don’t fall asleep right away we’re not tired. We are, but we’re over stimulated and that energized motor suggests to our brain that we can get “more” done. It happens to the best of us.

The computer or television isn't the best right before bed, or a heavy meal for that matter.

I would suggest a hot shower or bath and a good book. How about a cd with nature sounds or the ocean waves?

The column...you added something that is wider than its width. Try removing it and see if it corrects itself. You may have to relocate the problem link to the bottom of your page. I hope that helps!

I'm with RoseMarie. Consider adding chamomile or lavender (or my personal favorite, a blend of the two) hot tea with the shower/bath and book.

Good luck and sweet dreams ~ whenever you can get them!

The column dropped because there is something ( probably the last thing you added in ) is wider than the parameters. Stress can keep us awake but if you are not tired with only 3-4 hours, I would gladly ask you to send me the secret as I take a medicine at least 3 times a week.

Wow Rose -- first of all I will pray for you. Have you tried reading yourself to sleep? That helps me. Also drinking something warm like milk is also helpful. I have had insomnia quite a bit myself but after about three nights of hardly no sleep, my body wears out and I fall asleep. You will be in my prayers. God Bless

Rose, keep us posted on your sleep pattern. I believe that we all will want to know how you are doing.

I sleep terribly myself but you sound like you need a break, a vacation or something

I am a nite owl so I will up until 2 am either listening to the TV or laying there. I try turning the TV off but the "silence" of my home gets to me sometimes.

I am not a morning person. Even laid off, I slept through the morning and stayed up late.

I have had several kinds of insomnia. I know once I was waking up every other hour and then taking forever to go back to sleep, I bought a new bed and it helped ALOT. Now 6 years later I want new mattresses. LOL.

I can say I cannot remember when I slept over 6 hours on a regular basis. I pray you and all us others find sleep. I know it is affecting me weight wise.

Rose I too find myself awake until very late every night. From the way you wrote your post, I'm thinking your "insomnia" is kind of like mine and doesn't really feel like an inability to go to sleep as much as feeling like you're simply not ready to go to sleep.

I write and/or read blogs most nights until 3 or 4am and then I sleep until 6 or 7am and start my day. About once every week and a half or so, I'll fall asleep around 11 or midnight and sleep until the morning and that seems to maintain me through the long stretches with only 3 to 4 hours a night.

I don't let it stress me, as I simply tell myself that I'll sleep when I need it whether I want to or not. Like you, I refuse to start any sleep aids because I refuse to risk that being a requirement for getting to sleep down the line.

I hope you get as much sleep as you need, and if you're ever awake and want to talk to someone who you will not be disturbing, shoot me an email from my profile link and I'll send you my number ;-)

This is seriously weird. I am sitting with my back to the computer, telling Charlie that I'm falling asleep around 12:30...ish, and get up every morning around 5...ish, and then I'm still not sleeping straight through. At most I'm getting about 3.5 to 4 hours a night. I turn around, open your blog and here you are! I can't believe the coincidence!

I drink the chamomile, I drink the Sleepy Time...I shower, I read...I even take St. John's Wort and occasionally Excederin P.M....nothing.
I'm not thinking about anything in particular...I just lay there. If you find something that works for you, PLEASE SHARE!

I had sleep problems in university. You may want to try going to a sleep clinic, or asking your doctor for tips on sleep, but you definitely need some more sleep!

I could not survive on 27 hours of sleep. Are your eyes twitching yet? When I don't get enough rest...my face shows it. Wish I had some suggestions, but I'm a natural sleepy-head.

Try and get some good Z's this weekend.

Peace

Rose,
I'm so sorry that you are having such a rough time sleeping. It is so hard when that occurs.

Wishing you more Zzz's.
