Keeping Literacy Alive.......................
When I was a young girl I loved to visit the Book Mobile that came to our school once a month. I couldn’t wait to get my hands on some new books. As an avid reader, that was the one thing I enjoyed the most which was having books brought to me and others without having to leave the comforts of our neighborhood.
What a pleasant shock when a fellow friend, author and publisher decided to do the same thing. With so many people reading and the book mobile pretty much retired, I believe that Brenda Hampton’s new books on wheels will give me and others the same thrill that I had when books came to my neighborhood. I will do all I can to support her. I’ve already called to order 4 books. I’m beside myself visualizing myself searching for something to read on her van. Plus Brenda is a national best selling author who has grace several best sellers lists. Also several of my books are displayed on the van....
Thanks Brenda for being creative enough to keep readers reading…

I still have my reading certificates and buttons from the programs on our bookmobile when I was a child. I loved to read and could not wait for the vehicle to come every other thursday. To this day, I still love to read and spend hundreds of dollars mporting them and feeding my addiction for the written word.
This is really cool. I've never heard of anything like this before! :)
Ah...the bookmobile. Was there anything better? The close second, though, was when the Scholastic Books catalogues would come out.
Hm. Is it any wonder we ended up in publishing?
Glad to hear this kind of thing is still around.
Great info Rose! I took the phone number off of the photo on your post and I'm going to check this out for myself!
I have such fond memories of the Bookmobile and the Cabbanne Branch of the St. Louis Public Library where I spent upward of 70% of my free time as a child participating in all kinds of events from winning tickets to Six Flags for reading to winning the Summer Reading Club Challenge every single year of my childhood.
Wow! This was such a lovely stroll down memory lane for me...Thanks for being the stimulus; this was my idea of a REAL stimulus plan ;)
That is so great! I remember the book mobile when I was a kid. I guess I've dated myself. LOLOL.
This is a good thing. We have to promote this. I think that some young people read (probably more girls than boys), but not enough.
Btw, you know I appreciate the link that you have for me, but my name is missing the "h" on your links. It looks too much like "Stepin Fetchit." :)
Very interesting blog you have here! Nice to meet you.
I wish I had that mobile unit in my neck of the woods. I am about to move across about 6 states and am trying to DONATE by books but no one here seems to want to accept donations. I have been trying for almost 2 weeks to find a used book store that will take them.
Crazy!
