Missing Luggage

I left town to attend my nephew’s funeral. We decided to drive the 6 ½ hour distance. Once there, we visited with family members. We arrived at the hotel and as I readied myself for a shower I reached into the closet for my luggage. “Honey, where’s my luggage?” “It should be there”, he said. The three of us searched for my bags, my daughter, hubby and I could not locate them. Both of their luggages were sitting in the closet where they had put them.

After realizing that I left my luggage at home, I had to find a place that was still open to go purchase everything, toiletries, underwear, something to sleep in, make-up, just the whole work. I didn’t even have shoes for the funeral. I only had the jogging suit on my back and one dress outfit. For some reason I decided to put this outfit in my husband’s suit bag. It was an all black sweater two-piece set. If I hadn’t done that I would have cried. Luckily there was a Wal-Mart open, 24 hours. I bought everything I needed there but refused to purchase shoes there because I am particular about shoes.

The mall would not open until 10 o’clock and the funeral was at 10:00. Thank goodness for J.C. Penney’s, they had some very nice leather shoes. I was able to purchase shoes and stocking. I couldn’t believe that I left my luggage home. What an experience!

What a stress for most, but it looks like you handled that surprise well. Thank goodness you had the idea of putting your suit in your husband's luggage. The worst for you was not having your shoes, but for me it would have been my makeup.

Keeping your family in my thoughts and prayers.

No doubt, you had a lot on your mind. And I'm with you on the shoes. I'm very particular about shoes too. :-) I pray you and your family are well. :-)

Sad to hear that your nephew passed. I would have worn the jogging suit if need be but thank goodness you have better decorum than I. Hugs.

I'm sorry about your luggage, but you did have a lot on your mind. I'm glad you found some nice shoes at Penny's.

Maybe you should get a job with the airlines. :)

It must have been such an emotional time for you. I can so relate to forgetting the luggage at home. And yes, JC Penney and Sears open early and are fantastic places to get things.

I am hoping that you and your family are moving through this loss as best as you all can.

xo,
Deb

Sorry to hear about your stress with the luggage Rose but as others have said you did have a lot on your mind.

I hope the funeral service went okay and you and your family are able to move on.

What a terrible time to lose your luggage. I agree with Rosemarie - you handled the situation well, particularly given your grief. My condolences to your family.

Wow. I know that only added to your stress. I'm glad that everything worked out though. To me it seems that just when you could use a break, something happens that you just don't need. I think I would have lost it if I had forgotten my hair products.

Wow, what an experience! I'm glad that you were able to get something to wear to the funeral. I too, like shopping at JC Penneys. It seems as though they can accomodate pretty much everyone, especially price wise.

That is something I would do. Luckily you had that outfit in your husband's bag!

Hi Rose,

I came by here last week trying to express my condolensces to your family but the technology I love so much would not cooperate and allow me to leave a post. I am so sorry for your loss.

On a brighter note though, it was one more opportunity for that resourcefulness we love so much about you to show up ;)
