What does these three woman have in common?

They all have children who have been diagnosed with Autism.

What is autism?

Autism (sometimes called “classical autism”) is the most common condition in a group of developmental disorders known as the autism spectrum disorders (ASDs). Autism is characterized by impaired social interaction, problems with verbal and nonverbal communication, and unusual, repetitive, or severely limited activities and interests.

Is Autism growing in leaps and bounds? Lately so many people are saying that their child has been diagnosed with Autism. A recent news report said that 1 out of 100 children are diagnosed. A relative informed me that his child has it. Since I am reading that so many children are diagnosed I did some research and found out that researchers don't actually no where it comes from but feel that it comes from genetics and environment.

Last week a website was released to help parents with tools to identify signs. The website also show clips of children who are diagnosed. The website is http://www.autismspeaks.org/.

honestly I am suspicious about immunization. There was a NYTimes article that mentioned lots of parents are citing religious reasons (even if they aren't religious) for declining certain immunization. Perhaps we are just more aware of autism nowadays. I don't know.

My first cousin has it. I could tell when he was about 2 or so that he had it. He is now almost 21 and he is in a special education school. He functions at at pre-teen level. He can communicate yet he is mostly anti-social. He likes video games ALOT.

I heard that immunization shots may be the culprit too. They are giving out tons of shots at one time compared to 17 years ago when my daughter was a baby. My cousin's one-year old got like 4 shots at one time. WTH! I wonder about those shots.

A lot of people are suspicious about immunizations. I've spaced them out for my one year old, because they WILL try to give four shots at one time.

I could have come up with a different answer to what those three had in common, but I'll keep that to myself. ;-P

On a more serious note, when I was in junior high school, I volunteered to work with students who have autism. it was truly an experience I will never forget.

Autism has a spectrum of disorders. I also know that if caught early on children can have a slightly different journey than those who were not as fortunate.

Kudos to taking the time to write about this miss Rose. I don't know of anyone who has autism personally, but I do agree that it seems to be growing. Plus, it is said that no doctors no what it is exactly (or something to that affect) But I do agree with gc. I read somewhere that we are just more aware of autism nowadays and that it's always been around. Just diagnosed differently.
