Prom Season..........

It is that time again and several newspapers have reported that the cost of attending the senior prom has soared. The St. Louis Post Dispatch reported that the average cost of attending a prom this year is $1250.00. Others report that the cost is nearing the $2,000.00 mark.

I do think it is a shame that this one night is so costly. But I will not rant about it. My daughter who is 17 and a senior attended two proms. I promise you the cost is real for prom. People who sell products for proms have jacked up everything from dresses, shoes, purses, and even the prom tickets. My daughters' tickets were 110.00 per couple. Back in my day I think they were free or less than $ 10.00 a person.

This is one of the reasons that I have been missing from the blogging world. We had to prepare for the two proms, the upcoming graduation and debutante ball. The costs to do these things are ridiculous. Happily they were not interested in renting a limo. My daughter wanted to drive my car which my husband quickly approved and her date rented an SUV for his prom. I was very patient and trusting when she pulled off in my car. She is a great teen; she has done well in school and for the most part has really been obedient.

This August she will be leaving for college so that is a hard thing for us too. Our house will be quiet and since my husband and I have spent 17 years nurturing our daughter, I fear we will be lonely. What are we going to do now? I hope that we will create some fun things for us to enjoy. She attended the prom with Rhory a young man that she started talking to on the phone when she was 13. He is a member of our church and I have known his family since I was 14. They started off as good friends who lived about 45 miles away. So movies were parent supervised and church activities monitored.

The first prom they attended was her school.

My daughters' friend Ashley, Rhory and my daughter Adeesha.

Rose,
What beautiful kids!!!!!

I agree that prom costs and the pressure of it all is WAY too much. I sometimes think that simple affairs are so pleasing - and easier for all involved.
You must be EXHAUSTED preparing for not one, but TWO proms. You rock as a Mom!

Very nice pictures. Your daughter looks lovely. Thanks for sharing.

I agree that prom is getting too costly as is the case with weddings.

My daughter graduated last year from grade 8 and the cost was ridiculous. I wrote an article with tips in saving some money for grad and prom. Your daughter is very pretty and he sounds like a very nice man. I think it's normal to have that empty nest feeling when the kids leave home. Have you considered a puppy? Don't laugh. I know a few people who have purchased a small dog after their kids leave home.

I'm glad you both understand and were willing to take the extra financial steps to make your daughter's prom(s) enjoyable and memorable.

Beautiful pics...

And trust me, you won't be lonely. After Christmas. That's what my mom said, and she went thru this 4 times.

Your daughter looked beautiful at both her proms, but in the blue dress, she is especially gorgeous. As my son (finishing his sophomore year)gets ever closer to finishing high school, I feel the same sense of impending change you express. However, the true advantage of having been a wonderful mother (as evidently you have been), is that the wonderful child(ren) you raised will become wonderful adults who will not forget to honor, cherish, and VISIT those who helped them become that way!
Kudos to you and your husband on having undertaken and successfully excelled at the privelege of parenting!

i find this quite interesting. but may i know what the rationale of doing that? (i.e supervised socializing). sorry, no intend to offend, just merely curious. :)

as for past time, do try some gardening!

Gosh, I still have a couple of years before my son goes to prom. Guess I better start saving up. Back in 82 I think our prom tickets were $15!

Good times! My oldest will be a senior next year and we're looking at prom and graduation.
Great pictures, you've got a beautiful daughter and your pride sure shows in the pictures. They make a handsome couple.

I've always thought that I couldn't wait till my kids went to college, and with one going soon, now I've got mixed feelings. Guess I'm not as tough as I thought I was.

Awww - I missed Prom! That's so beautiful though and the opportunity of going to two Proms! Wow! She's beautiful! Yeah, the prices are outrageous, but I am glad she got to go and the pictures are great! She'll definitely remember this.

Beautiful. Absolutely beautiful. And heading to college so smart. And your daughter so strong. What more can a mother ~ or our society ~ wish for in a young woman.

AWWWW,

She is so cute as well as the boy. I am sure you were so proud of her.

Although the country, Azerbaijan, where I am from we did not have proms, I can understand how your daughter was thrilled to be there.

She is pretty :)

Luv,

Wow your daughter looks gorgeous Rose. I especially love the dress she wore to the second prom. I had no idea they were so expensive though.

Wow...$2000 for prom? Yeah...somehow I don't remember that...but I guess mainly cause I'm a guy, and I didn't need to get a dress and all that. But I do remember it costing alot though. I remember the tickets were ridiculous too, like $80. It's a good thing that I only went to one. You have a lovely daughter too, by the way.

Wow -- the prom(s) -- brings back memories! Your kids looked wonderful, but what's to be expected! Thanks for your great traveling story -- Drinking and singing huh? I wonder who this now famous person is your friend didn't get to sleep with because of your cock blocking! Won't you tell me -- please!

Those pics made me start reminiscing about my prom. And your right, every year that stuff gets more and more expensive. My prom dress was made specially for me and cost a pretty penny. By the time my daughter is going off to college it might cost an arm and leg to send her off in style. Yikes!
