I Don't Get It!

While 1 percent of the wealthiest in the United States dance to the bank, President Bush is planning on cutting the budget to reduce food stamps, housing, education assistance and Medicaid for the poor. Yet, he plans to increase tax breaks for the rich.

These cuts are being proposed to offset the cost of the war in Iraq and to rebuild New Orleans. It would seem that the categories he is planning on cutting are the very ones that the displaced residents would need to aid their families while they try to get back on their feet.

Talk to me....I need to understand why the smallest and the weakest is the first target.
Please help me to understand why the poor is always the one to suffer, while the rich get richer and they are only 1 percent of the population. Why do we just sit back and watch it happen?

You can never understand greed and corruption.

Because the rich know that the voice of the poor will not be heard. The powerful drown it out, distract from it and derail any movement otherwise.

We need to impeach the goons, and clean house.

I'm so angry right now, sorry....

I think there are a select few that are on the battle fields with the fortunate. Unfortunately, there are many people that don't know what is going on in the world and don't know how important politics plays in their daily lives.

There are millions of people that live in poverty across America. Imagine if they elected someone who advocated for them. That would shift grounds on who is winning the fight.

Great, great question. I too would love to know that answer to that. If you find it PLEASE let me know.

One thing I never understood that when we, on the other side of the globe, knew what kind of misery Iraq & Afghanistan wars can bring to millions of poors, then, how come Americans voted for Mr.Bush.

Did they not know, that this would also have a terrible impact on the U.S. economy, which, in turn, would most affect the poor of America...

If the poor are 99% of the whole population of the U.S., they could easily have ousted Mr. Bush's government.

Rose I don't understand it myself. As for the citizens, well you know we can only do so much. If only we could bring back a government whom we can trust and believe in, things would be much better. Since Bush America's become a hostile place and every single day exposes some sort of corruption. Some people make fun of Clinton but look at how much better things were then. The public was happy and the economy thrived. Now it's so depressing to me I can't even stand to read the news. Every time I turn on the television there is some tragedy or problem with Bush as the center of it. If we don't get the morale of the people back up, America will never be as unified as before. A lot of people claim they won't even vote next time because it's just too disheartening to see what America has turned into. Things can only get better but we used to be such a happy nation. Then again how can we with all of these problems and no one taking care of them? Great post!

Mrs. Rose,

If you look at societal structure of any country without rich people society will not advance. Governments, rules, laws were written for rich people and their own interest. They are the heart and soul of societal structure. If there were not rich people, poor ppl would not find a job. I mean it. There is need for active citizen groups to keep rich, overconfident people on check. Rich people get rich for taking risk and extra stress. Poor ppl lack of courage and guts that rich people possess. So poor ppl do not deserve more because we do not have guts to take risk and speak out loud enough.
Disclaimer: I am not rich or do not come from a rich family.

My theory: the rich can't be rich if there aren't any poor folks to exploit.

Poverty is at the root of many of our social problems...if not all. Of all industrialized nations the U.S. has greatest number of people below poverty....I can't even begin to explain why that is.

Funny though, how we (the U.S.) hold ourselves so high above the rest of the world--quick to point out injustices and social problems in other nations, yet we seem to ignore I our own.

It's like the bullies in junior high school, if someone won't fight back, if they just take it, the bullies know they're weak and take advantage pretty much forever. And if they don't stand up for themselves, it doesn't matter if someone else tries to do it for them. Because the bullies know that you can't save someone from themeselves.

Rose, you're gonna throw rocks at me, but I think because they don't contribute much, only taking, their stuff gets cut first. The thing is, "rich folks" as they say are actually people like you and I. People who work and pay our way. Those tax cuts will help middle class working tax paying folks like you and I.

We live in a day of apathy. That and there's always another battle needing to be fought. We're gathering for commemorative events such as the Millions More Movement and taking time to protest Sex and the City ending. I've never seen anybody get up a group to oust Bush, but I saw several every time "Touched by an Angel" faced cancellation.

Because the poor don't donate millions of dollars to campaigns. And we don't have any oil.

Damn straight! Bush's policies are horrid.

He has to please his base- the powerful, corrupt, and rich.. cuz without them and their deceit... and all that money, he would have never successfully stolen both elections.

Damn.. some pretty intellignet comments. Why can't more people like you comment at my blog? I get all the Republicans, folks with wool pulled over their eyes, and people who think that everything's OK, and I'm buying into some conspiracy.
