Have you ever been so tired and could not sleep? That is what I am going through right now. It has been three days and I have not logged more than five hours of sleep. The worst thing about this is I can't write or do anything important because I am too exhausted to think...So I have been simply sitting here staring at the computer. I also took three days from work today to get myself back....One of my friends told me today to take a break and refresh myself. She felt that I am doing too much and that with all the things that are happening for me in a positive way that I might just be in overdrive. But I have a question-how do I get out of overdrive and back to me? Finally, I went to get my hair styled. You know every time someone put their fingers in my head, I fall asleep but not this time. I was too tired to even do that....Good I didn't sleep at my stylist because while I was sitting in my seat, people started coming in the back asking me if I was the author, I was like yes...next thing I know I am out at the car getting books out and selling...but the thing that was most special was this-one 82 year old beautiful woman came to the back to meet me with my book in her hand. She wanted me to sign the book and said she couldn't wait to read it and to share it with her friends...I asked, "Are you sure you are 82?" She was like, "yes and I can't wait to read Backroom Confessions." Now all I could say was this to her..."I wish I could look like you when I turn 82".. Listen people-she was absolutely beautiful, very vibrant, and had pep in her step...She said, "me and my friends will read your book and get back to you"...mind you she was excited to meet me and I was too excited to meet her. So how did all those folks find out that an author was in the back, well it was Ms. Phyllis-owner of the only certified tree braid salon in St. Louis. She too is a great lady. When she found out I was an author without reading my work she purchased 5 books and asked her other stylist to do the same. So they actually read the book and was so excited to see me because they wanted to discuss the book...but the other stylist would not have them spoil the fun for them. So now the they are going to have a book signing for me and invite their customers and others...One more thing, I don't think anyone could understand how I felt sitting in that chair with women around me asking me 100 questions, girl Megan is jacked up, Patches is that, girl I liked Denver and so on until two more customers got up, walked over, pick up a book and said sign my book. I know one thing, that is going to be a great signing...Ms. Phyllis said she was going to have refreshments, cold drinks and we were going to have a ball. Another thing....I will continue to support her shop for this reason-I am rather shy and have a difficult time saying I am an author, buy my book but Ms. Phyllis saw a book in my hand over five weeks ago and as a result of my stylist purchasing one and she treated me like a celebrity, brought customers to me and said we are supporting this lady. She even told me to bring a display picture and books and she would sale them daily for me. I don't know about you but that made my heart feel proud. I do have some strong supporters in my corners who pass out my post cards and email folks all the time but this lady made me feel special and so proud..because we really do have to stand behind our authors and support them..she did not have that crab mentality, you know- holding someone down while they are trying to climb out, but she was lifting me up and asking others to do the same. So Ms. Phyllis you are one special lady and I salute you as progressive, supportive and one beautiful lady who works to make us look good both on the inside and out and I thank you for your support... Lessons for today-if we don't uplift our people who will? Support and encourage authors, musicians, quilt designers, piano players, anything that brings peace and happiness-love and support thy brother.
