A Weekend of Joy

This has been a great weekend. I appreciated everyone that supported my writers and I at the Black Expo. We sold many, many books and picked up so many fans. I was very excited to meet a lady from Arkansas. Apparently in our media marketing through email she received information about A hole in my Heart. She wanted the book but found that Barnes and Noble said that the book was out of print. She came here to visit and came to the Expo just to find me. I am thankful that she wanted to read and support our work. She was excited. Hugging me she said that she was the President of a book club. They are going to select us the book of the month. I told her that since she was so close that we may be willing to come to her state. We exchanged information. The whole night was nothing but networking with organizations such as Boy Scouts, after school programs, newspaper reporters, etc. These people left their cards and took mines asking me to make sure that I contact them. So we had a nice time at this event. But I am tired but it is a happy tired. I have a good feeling about writing and my future. By the way, I was featured as one of St. Louis Who's Who in Black St. Louis book. It is a beautiful book with people who has supposedly made it in St. Louis. At the reception, there were probably 500 or so people in attendance. They honored Franklin Muse Freeman, a civil rights attorney who worked with five Presidents of the United States. Man that was emotional watching the videotape of her working many famous civil rights cases. People were crying. My tears were for what she accomplished to help her people, plus that she is still taking cases even though she is in her seventies. I was also proud that she is a Delta Sigma Theta. My sister. There were people from every profession featured in the book. I sat one row behind some of St. Louis wealthiest people and several of them knew me by name. Some of my sorors were on that row. Boy was I proud to be a part of the featured St. Louisans. Also my publisher of the newspaper that I write for was sitting right by my side. She is a young African American woman who started her own newspaper. She is an amazing sister herself. Our people are so progressive. Lesson for today...don't let anyone tell you that you can't do something, let their words light the fire in you and accomplish your dreams.

gramyactress@21,
I was more impressed with meeting Ms. Freeman. In our history books you will see her. In my lifetime, I will probably never meet another huge civil rights leader who made such an impact in our country and with the rights of African Americans. Trust me! Nothing beats this...you have to read about her to know what I mean..
